New and Updated FloodSmart Tools and Resources for Agents
FloodSmart, the marketing and education campaign of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), recently developed new resources for insurance agents.
Regularly scheduled webinars are now available on Agents.FloodSmart.gov. Each presentation provides an in-depth look at how agents can use FloodSmart tools and resources to have the flood talk with current and prospective clients. Each webinar includes a Q&A session at the end. Look for registration information in our seasonal newsletters. These webinars are not eligible for Continuing Education credit, nor can they be counted toward the required 2 hours of flood insurance training for the Agent Referral Program.
- Should You Have the Flood Talk? Video
Having the flood talk and selling flood insurance requires a special kind of language. Insurance agents are invited to watch FloodSmart’s new video at Agents.FloodSmart.gov to understand the value of selling flood insurance and learning to speak flood. Most important, selling flood insurance can help agents to build their business and protect their customers. Download and share the video with colleagues to encourage them to have the flood talk with their clients.
- Social Media
Each season, FloodSmart provides Facebook and Twitter messages that are available to promote flood insurance and flood safety. FloodSmart also offers tips on effectively using social media to communicate with others.
- Protect What Matters Advertising Campaign
Based on a successful public service announcement (PSA), FloodSmart launched a direct response advertising campaign that urges consumers to “Protect What Matters. Get Flood Insurance.” Through storytelling, the campaign illustrates how a homeowner who has not experienced a flood is still susceptible to the risk of future flood damage. The campaign also encourages consumers to reach out to local FloodSmart agents in the Agent Referral Program. Share the PSA campaign with your clients as a reminder to be aware of their flood risk and purchase flood insurance.
- Flood Insurance Toolkit
The Flood Insurance Outreach Toolkit contains FloodSmart materials designed to help you speak and sell flood. It includes talking points, answers to frequently asked questions about flood insurance, responses to flood insurance myths, and so much more. There is also information for your clients to learn more about their flood risk and the benefits of flood insurance.
While you can access these new and updated resources on Agents.FloodSmart.gov, you can also register for the FloodSmart Agent Referral Program. Joining the referral programs allows potential clients to find you with ease using the One-Step Flood Risk Profile or Agent Locator tool on FloodSmart.gov, on FloodSmart direct mailings, and when they call the NFIP Referral Call Center.
To enroll, simply complete a minimum of 2 hours of flood insurance training every 2 years. You can get this training from the NFIP, a Write Your Own, or a private instructor, and it doesn’t need to be a Continuing Education or Flood Insurance Reform Act (FIRA) course. As long as it is technical and you have proof of completion, we will accept it as your form of training.
